MS Community Service Day 2010

MS-ians are back!

This year the staff of Mathematics and Science Department decided to spend some time with the children from Sunbeam Place. After a short briefing on the rainy morning of 25th June 2010, the MS staff gathered excitedly to board the bus headed for Hong San Terrace, but not before our customary photo-taking session at the Admin taxi stand! Say cheeseee...

At Sunbeam Place, MS staff spent the earlier part of the day bonding with the children over a hearty meal catered by MS Department. After lunch and some lip-smacking ice-cream for dessert sponsored by Ms. Lee Hwee Theng's friend, the children proceeded on to participate in a carnival-like game stalls set up by MS staff. The children were trying hard to win the prizes from each stall and with MS staff in the background cheering them on (and helping them along the way), most of the children managed to get at least a winning prize. Everyone enjoyed the games, so much so that it was hard to end the games and move on with the next exciting programme planned.

Two buses ferried MS staff, the children as well as two care-takers from Hong San Terrace to Lot 1, Chua Chu Kang to watch this long awaited sequal. Each child was treated to a set of popcorn and a fountain drink (generous donation by Mr. and Mrs. Tay Kuan Seng). Laughter was heard throughout the movie and it can be said that everyone enjoyed the show.

Besides the lunch, games and movie treats, a cash donation amounting to $3.400 was also presented to Sunbeam. The mock cheque was presented by Director of MS, Miss Chao to a representative of Sunbeam, Ms. Tiffany Chia.

All of us at MS hope that the children at Sunbeam enjoyed the day as much as we did.

We look forward to the next Community Service Day!

  1. Thank you - organising committee - for organising this meaningful event. I enjoyed talking to the kids, watching them laugh and enjoyed themselves. It warms my heart by seeing how our colleagues took care and hold the hands of the children (and brought them to toilet during the movies :-)). Great event!

  2. It is heart-warming to see all of us putting in the effort to bond with the children during the various fun activities planned by the committee. The smiles on the children's faces really make my day :)
